MYTH
"DGFT and RBI are separate compliance tracks"
They're linked. An exporter who avails RODTEP but doesn't realize the FEMA implication of delayed realization creates a dual compliance breach. Export incentives and foreign exchange rules are one system, not two.
MYTH
"LUT is just a tax formality"
A Letter of Undertaking (LUT) is the difference between zero-rated exports and exports with 18% GST paid upfront (or IGST blocked capital). An expired or invalid LUT on a shipment means capital blocked for 90 days.
MYTH
"Shipping documents are the logistics team's job"
Commercial invoice, packing list, COO, and bill of lading must align exactly with the LC terms and customs declaration. A single discrepancy in quantity, unit, or Incoterms causes the bank to reject the LC documents.

The Expired LUT
A new financial year started; LUT renewal was missed for 47 days. 3 shipments went out with IGST charged instead of zero-rated. IGST blocked: INR 12.4L. Refund took 4 months. LUT renewal is now a March 20th standing calendar task.
The LC Discrepancy
Packing list showed "100 MT" but LC specified "100 metric tons" (not universally identical under some LC templates). Bank raised a discrepancy notice. Exporter had to get a letter of indemnity. Now all LC terms are pre-reviewed against document templates before shipment.
The FEMA Realization Miss
A buyer defaulted; export proceeds unrealized at 10 months. Company didn't know the 9-month period had passed. AD Bank reported the breach. FEMA compounding application filed. Process: EDPMS realization tracking now weekly.
The RODTEP Rate Error
A company was applying a RODTEP rate for the wrong HS code — claiming 1.2% instead of the correct 0.8%. When discovered, the excess scrip utilization had to be reversed. HS-code-to-RODTEP rate mapping is now system-enforced.
The Advance Authorization Lapse
An Advance Authorization for duty-free import of inputs had an export obligation. The export was made but not updated in DGFT within the time window. License forfeited. Export obligation closure is now tracked in the compliance calendar alongside the shipment.
